Turnip Report: an end to kale
Nov. 24th, 2013 12:28 pmI still don't have a farmshare for next summer, so this may be the last kale I'll ever cook. Hard to feel sad about that.
I'm trying the Portugese kale soup recipe I found in the Winter Harvest Cookbook. They say you can substitute garlic for linguica.
However, the pot full of kale and potatoes in beet broth didn't look very appetizing. I added 3/4 c. red wine and a can of tomato paste. I am cautiously optimistic about its being edible.
For Thanksgiving I'll be baking the Sundays at Moosewood mushroom pie and Libby's pumpkin pie.
I've also started processing the cabbage for the Christmas pierogi. The potato ricer is a big help in getting the liquid out of the boiled cabbage, but requires more force than I'd expected.
