Looks like the rain started just in time to boil more greens!

I think the napa cabbage proved that boiling is necessary to get enough liquid out to make cabbage pierogi filling. At least I now have a reason beyond leeching flavor and nutrients!

The kohlrabi leaves and collards will go in the pot after I fish the cabbage out, then I'll make broth of whatever's left of the fennel stalks and some other stuff.

The kohlrabi bulbs get to be soup! I may throw in some potatoes and thyme -- this recipe looks nicer, but also like a real pain to follow.

Marshmallow

The remote ancestors of the marshmallow were made from marsh mallow plants, so there is a link. It's pretty tenuous. I found some good marshmallow making stories on the internet by searching on "pâte de guimauve", but I didn't find a good history.
