I presume the same place that all "ia" endings come from?

A thing that is minute is a minutia and two of them are minutiae?

Though if you showed me "mintuia" with no context, I'd assume it was already plural... I should really just go learn some Latin one of these days. :)

Given the frequent origin of peculiarly spelled words, I'd guess it went through French somewhere along the way.

...and having just looked it up, I'd be wrong. It appears to be straight-up Latin.
