When I think about it, sticking an "ed" after a "y" is pretty common. But today I wanted to change the y to an i for some reason. (I have to change the y to an i in other places. Why not here? It's not fair.)

Because nothing about English is fair or consistent.
Also "displaied" looks wrong. :)
