Word of the Day

This makes word of the day chiefly because its Wikipedia article reads like alphabet soup. SNOBOL!
The word of yesterday is buried. Why only one r? How is it supposed to be pronounced? (In my dialect, buried is a homophone of berried.)
Today's bonus word is homonym, which is difficult to spell and which doesn't mean what I think it means (also, it links to a definition of homophone).
