The turnip crisis is mostly under control. Either I'll steam and mash that turnip or the mold will cover it. It's even stored in a plastic bag, for ease of disposal!

I've been eagerly chowing down on the bland vegetable soup of stars. This makes me think that I need to make more new recipes, rather than yet another vat of borscht (too bad, because borscht would use up a lot of ingredients...) I couldn't find the beet recipe I got from gigglefest and 76trombones, so I looked up this one:

It has the virtue of being extremely simple. If you make it and don't like it, all you've lost are some beets, seasoning and flour. And getting rid of beets is the point of the exercise!

The result was definitely edible, though I wish the beets had been less crunchy. Possibly I didn't cook them long enough. Adding more flour would make the pancakes more savory and less beety, though one might run out of liquid. The recipe doesn't give much guidance on amount of salt. I'd say at least half a teaspoon, though it's easy enough to salt the pancakes later.
