I've been dithering about whether to get an iPad or a Macbook Air for next year's commute. I'll be on the train for about 45 minutes, usually at a table. In the past, I've done a lot of typing on the train, for which I need a ctrl key and an esc key. While traveling to conferences I'll probably want to edit LaTeX slides, which I may only be able to do by ssh from the iPad. I don't want to carry a lot of weight because my textbooks are heavy. If I get a Macbook Air, I can play World of Warcraft on it; this is both a plus and a minus.
