Laptop!

I just ordered a laptop for my birthday! 64Gb solid state hard drive, Ubuntu operating system, starting from 2.5 lbs. I should get it the day after my birthday.

I was thinking about waiting until I could add "tablet" to the above list, and I was concerned that 64Gb wasn't enough, but now is the time. My brother's been using his wife's laptop since he was laid off, and now she doesn't get DHCP service anymore (my diagnosis -- I suppose it could be something else.) He's taken the thing to a couple of service places but they couldn't help. I'm not surprised; I couldn't even *find* the Vista controls for DHCP/DNS/IP. It turns out that the laptop I handed down to him had only a 32Gb hard drive (which was plenty once I deleted WoW and 3 user accounts), so 64Gb should do for a while.

The new laptop is cute as a button and cost less than $700. Also, Dell's web site has a live chat option which makes up for all the trouble I had finding the "Ubuntu on mini" option.

It'll be a race to see if I can install Wine and WoW before my trip to Toronto.

Words!

Look! I sometimes do memes! Below are words I got from Firstfrost. I enjoy Badly Chosen Words and will give you some if you want.

Apparently the way to ask for words is to reply to this post with your request. Seems clunky, but there it is.

Edit: I'm not very good at memes; I'm sure I'm missing something. If you want you can reply to this with Badly Chosen Words for me and I'll post something about those, too.

Spork -- Those mostly useless pointy spoon thingies that you get from Kentucky Fried Chicken and use to eat cole slaw. I don't like cole slaw either. My father says the real word is "runsible spoon", and I saw some for sale at the Corning/Revere outlet in Wrentham recently.

Aqueduct -- These are for making your civilization grow more quickly. Romans build them.

Tonsure -- Monks shave off little circles of their hair. I suspect this tradition originated with young monks faking male pattern baldness in order to look older.

Gumption -- I haz it.

Clepsydra -- Wikipedia says either phytoplankton (yay having enough oxygen!) or a water clock. Where do you get these words?
