I think the leaves were chard. I boiled them and fished them out with a sort of wonton paddle thingy I got for making pierogi. In a separate pot I sauteed a bunch of veggie and stem chunks in olive oil, then dumped that and some spices and tamari sauce into the juicy red water the chard boiled in.
Right now it's boiling madly. The more I can get to evaporate away, the less I'll have to store in the freezer.
I forgot to mention -- I pureed the chard in the little smoothie beaker that came with the wand blender. Worked perfectly!
